TIME publishes a series of photos taken with the iPhone camera

The iPhone offers a high quality camera Apple improves with each update and the photos and videos it takes have been used in fashion shows, movies and other professional applications.

TIME magazine, best exponent of world photojournalism, is the latest publication to exclusively use the iPhone camera for a photo shoot with his new series "FIRSTS: Women who are changing the world", which features photographs taken with iPhone by Brazilian photographer Luisa Dörr. Over the past year, Dörr used Apple models: iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 to capture photos of notable and successful women like Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Melinda Gates, Sylvia Earle, Alice Waters, Mae Jemison, Cindy Sherman and many more.

In an interview at TIME, Dörr says he uses an iPhone since offers great photographs anytime, anywhere and because the subject feels less intrusive when the photo is captured with an iPhone instead of a standard camera. Dörr's images are unique because they only use natural light and sometimes a reflector to capture women who are often photographed with more lighting and production equipment.

The photographer reveals:I like simplicity of how these photos are made, but the best part is that as a photographer, one feels extremely light and free. It's almost as if I could take pictures with my hand. There is no noise, devices, tools … only the protagonist and me. I was always trying to imagine these portraits as paintings. I am fascinated by the landscapes and topographies of women's faces, their stories and their context. I am interested in the way in which life and time are leaving their mark on all of them; not only with physical marks, but also with the most spiritual traces. ”

Dörr says that the women who were photographed were "surprised" by being object of a photo session with just an iPhone and that many times he did his job in a matter of minutes. The shortest session was two minutes and the longest filming lasted 20 minutes. Each portrait was captured with the iPhone camera in the square format and with the automatic HDR for more lighting details in the photographs.
