Confirmed: Apple buys Shazam

It had been rumored for several days and it was already indicated that the operation could be confirmed this week, and Apple has not wanted to speculate more on the subject so today Monday has just confirmed that it has acquired Shazam, the well-known music recognition application, which becomes part of the Cupertino family.

The company's plans with this application are unknown, if it will continue as an independent application or Apple will integrate it into its Apple Music service, or if it will use its Machine Learning system to improve Apple's own. The exact figure for which it was purchased is not known, although it is rumored that it could have been for about 400 million dollars, well below the figure in which the service was valued after its last round of financing.

Apple Music and Shazam fit naturally, sharing the passion for discovering new music and bringing the best music experience to its users. We have big plans in our mind and hope to combine them with Shazam after today's agreement. Since the launch of Shazam in the App Store it has been maintained in one of the most popular applications of our application store. Today it is used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide and on all platforms.

This acquisition leaves us many unknowns that will be revealed in the coming months. What are Apple's ambitious plans for its music service and Shazam? Will it still exist in the App Store as a standalone application? What will happen to the versions for other platforms like Android? Shazam was already integrated in Siri since 2014 but this new step will certainly make this change, we will probably have to wait until the announcement of iOS 12 to see what this purchase is reflected.
