iPhone sales will go down if Trump meets the promise

The Government of China has said, in a statement in the Global Times newspaper, that the iPhone sales "will suffer" if President-elect Donald Trump meets the threats of starting a trade war when I enter the White House. The comment was made in response to the promise that the American tycoon and politician made to apply 45% tariffs to Chinese imports, that is, if the war starts, China will continue it.

The statement seems to go directly to Trump, ensuring that a shrewd businessman will not be so naive and even suggest that the commercial war is a trap set by the American media to silence the new president. In fact, the Chinese are not the only ones who expect the threat of this war to remain in only talk to access the White House, something that, on the other hand, is highly probable.

Half the world expects Trump not to keep many of his promises

If Trump imposes a 45 percent tariff on Chinese imports, China-US trade will be paralyzed. China will make an "eye for an eye" movement in that case. A batch of Boeing orders (USA) will be replaced by Airbus (Europe). US cars and iPhone sales in China will suffer a setback (…) The new president will be condemned for his lack of respect, ignorance and incompetence and will lead to the consequences.

On the other hand, the Chinese media ensures that Trump will in no case have the necessary authority to apply this rate:

Imposing a 45 percent rate on imports from China is mere campaign rhetoric. The most important authority a president of the United States has is to impose tariffs of up to 15 percent for 150 days on all imported goods and the limit can only be broken on condition that the country is declared in a state of emergency. In another scenario, a president of the United States can only ask for a rate to increase in individual products.

We will see what happens from now on, but I agree with what the Chinese Government says. More than anything because one thing is the political campaign and another very different is what is done once the presidency is reached, something that was demonstrated in the first words of the next president of the United States as soon as his victory was confirmed. Unless Trump wants (and can) start something fat, he can't provoke markets as important as the Chinese. And, Trump, shut up, you're more handsome.
