Pokmon Quest is the next Nintendo game to land on Android phones. Although we have already tried it: from today it is available for Nintendo Switch.
After testing it on the Nintendo Switch when it was available for the console, we already verified that the mechanics of Pokémon Quest, its style of play and aesthetics were clearly oriented to smartphones. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have known how to squeeze the franchise in the mobile field: with Quest there are now seven games available for Android with pocket creatures adapted to touch screens.
Okay, Pokémon Quest It is a new mobile game. But does it have anything to do with the previous hit Pokémon Go? Does it more closely resemble the versions of Pokémon for portable consoles? Well, the truth is that it is much closer to the second option than the first, but without reaching the extent, complexity and duration of a Silver Pokémon, Ruby or Sun, for example. And with in-app purchases that spice up the game.
Simpler game and graph charts
The gameplay has been greatly simplified in Pokémon Quest in an attempt to bring the game closer to what succeeds on mobile platforms. Because of that we will not find a complicated control of the characters, rather null control: Pokémon will roam freely and fight with other creatures at their free will. So forget about throwing Pokéballs or face the Pokémon using their attacks: the machine will do almost all the work.
The initial selection should be done by us: what will be the first Pokémon that will accompany us in the adventure? Pikachu, Eevee, Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander, choose one of them. He will be in charge of patrolling the Island of Rodacubo in search of objects with which to fill the pot. Sounds strange, but this is how new Pokémon are captured, forget about the Pokéballs.
Pokémon Quest simplifies to the maximum the options of fight and capture to stimulate those of "farmeo". Our Pokémon will have to fight (it happens every time let's patrol the island of Rodacubo with up to three Pokémon), but these fights will be automatic with the single interaction of launching special attacks. This combat mode is increasingly common in smartphones, something that dilutes one of the best assets of any Pokémon title.
Despite the problems, Pokémon Quest is not a bad game. If different from what we were used to, maybe it will not make people who are on the road from the original Game Boy Pokémon fall in love. Even so, it is a game worth trying. It is free and, as you can imagine, offers in-app purchases. Of course: do not hinder the progress in the game.
