Amazon to launch DRM-free MP3 service

The announcement follows the same trend set by Apple and EMI last April, so it is not surprising that the most important commercial partner of Amaon.com is EMI, although the distributor has indicated that another 12,000 record companies will also participate.

Because Amazon.com will not use DRM technology and will adopt the standard MP3 format for distribution, music purchased through this service can be played on virtually any digital player, including iPod.
