Apple’s profits grow 88 percent over the previous quarter

With sales of 5,264 million dollars and 770 million dollars of net profit, it represents a growth of 88 percent over the same period of the previous year. Translated into product sales, this represents a total of 1,517,000 Macintosh computers, of which 626,000 are desktops and 891,000 are laptops. The number of iPod unit sales this quarter rose 24% with a total of 10,549,000 iPods.

As indicated in the statement issued by Apple, the company has achieved quarterly sales of 5,264 million dollars (3,857 million euros) and has obtained a quarterly net profit of 770 million dollars (564 million euros), equivalent to $ 0.87 per share. These results are compared with sales of 4,359 million dollars (3,195 million euros) and net profit of 410 million dollars (300 million euros) or 0.47 dollars per share, obtained in the same quarter of the previous year. The company’s gross margin was 35.1 percent, higher than the 29.8 percent of the previous fiscal year. 43 percent of quarterly sales have been made by Apple outside the US.

In terms of the numbers of units sold, they represent a 36 percent increase in the number of laptops and desktops, and a 24 percent increase in the number of iPods sold over the same quarter of the previous year.
