New Sony Handycam AVCHD camcorders with up to 100GB hard drive

The new HDR-SR series is spearheaded by the SR8E which has a 100GB hard drive capacity, records HD images with surround sound for 38 hours (in LP mode). While the SR5E and SR7E models offer disk capacities of 40 and 60 GB respectively which is equivalent to 15 and 22 hours of recording in HD (in LP mode). In both cases they have quick navigation with new search functions and simple backups using the “One Touch Disc Burn” option.

The new cameras incorporate Intelligent HDD Protection technology to protect your recordings in the event of unexpected shocks during recording and weigh only 530 g (excluding battery), the latest models in the HDR-SR Series are around 20 percent smaller and 17 percent lighter (SR7E / 8E) than its predecessor, the SR1E.

The SR7E / 8E models shoot 6.1 megapixel quality still images, have a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD and have Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilization, while the HDR-SR5E has a 4.0 megapixel CDD sensor and also 2.7 inch widescreen LCD.

The Sony Handycam SR5E, SR7E and SR8E will be available from June 2007 at a price of 1,200 EUR (HDR-SR5E), 1,500 EUR (HDR-SR7E) and 1,800 EUR (HDR-SR8). In all cases it includes VAT.
