Sunflowers that recharge your cell phone

The public companies of MedellĂn, EPM, have recently come up with a fairly innovative idea that I hope will gradually become popular throughout the rest of the country. These are portable stations in the shape of sunflowers that recharge your cell phone using solar energy.

EPM sunflowers store solar energy

Who has not been in the annoying situation of being in the middle of the street with a discharged cell phone begging to be connected to a power source? Thanks to these sunflowers, now some inhabitants of MedellĂn can cope with this problem on the streets.

How do the sunflowers that recharge your EPM cell phone work?

Inspired by the sunflower, these stations have photovoltaic cells, which are capable of taking advantage of natural solar energy, storing it in batteries that can then be used to recharge portable devices that are connected to it.

In its pilot project, EPM has placed several of these stations in public parks in Medellín, such as the barefoot park, the explora park and the Santafé shopping center. What do you think of this initiative? Would you like to see her reach other cities?
