These are the Winners of Google Science Fair 2014

A few weeks ago I spoke a little about the Google Science Fair 2014, which is a school science fair (like the one they do in any school) but put together by Google worldwide. Its objective is to encourage and motivate young minds to carry out research of all kinds, which is presented at the annual science fair, to participate in the grand prize of $ 50,000 in scholarships and awards from sponsors. .

This year, we could see great proposals participating in the different categories, such as shoes that generate energy when walking or devices to help people with disabilities speak. But like all competition there must always be a winner, and this year a group of young people took first place with their project to fight the world hunger crisis.

Winners Ciara Judge, Émer Hickey, and 16-year-old Sophie Healy became very interested in the issue of the hunger crisis in Africa in 2011, and it turned out that during a school gardening project that went awry, they came across a bacteria that grow naturally in the soil called Diazotroph. These girls determined that this bacterium could be used to accelerate the germination process of certain types of crops such as barley and oats by up to 50%, potentially helping to meet the growing demand for food worldwide.

Congratulations to the winners of the Google Science Fair 2014, and many successes in this beautiful project that you have proposed. It is fully demonstrated that young minds are the ones who see no limits in things and bring spectacular innovations.
