The video game platform streaming Google’s Stadia is now available for iPhone and iPad. The rules of the Apple Store mean that it is still impossible to publish apps that play games from the cloud. That’s why Google has made Stadia available from the browser.
To access Stadia, you’ll need to go to stadia.google.com in Safari on your iPhone or iPad. Although you can use it from the browser, we recommend that you create a direct access so that elements such as the address bar or tabs do not bother you.
To do so, you’ll need to tap on the ‘Share’ icon, then select ‘Add to Home Screen’. This will create a Stadia browser app icon on your iPhone or iPad. When you open it, you’ll have a full Safari window with no address bar, tabs, or other navigation controls.
Google does have a Stadia app on the App Store, but it doesn’t have the functionality to play games, which is the only reason the service exists. Instead, the app is only used to manage your account and access the game catalog.
That goes for Xbox too, and it looks like starting next spring you’ll also be able to access the service on streaming Xbox Game Pass Ultimate the same way.
Instead, it is still possible to play Apple Arcade from your iPhone or iPad.
