The last two years may have been somewhat overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped Apple from revamping virtually all of its product lines, including most Intel-powered Macs, which now use M1 chips, M1 Pro and M1 Max.
Apple has also released new AirPods, new colors for the HomePod mini, a new generation of iPhones, improved iPads, and an update to the Apple Watch. But there is much more planned for 2022.
In fact, the company has already announced some products in 2022:
In this article, we’ll take a look at everything else we can expect from Apple this year. We have compiled all the rumors and information that are circulating in order to bring you our predictions. Don’t miss out on what Apple might have up its sleeve.
Macs and MacBooks
In June 2020, Apple revealed its intention to switch from using Intel processors in its Macs to using its own chips within two years. You’ve already upgraded many Macs: MacBook Air, Mac mini, 24″ iMac, 13″ MacBook Pro, 14″ MacBook Pro, and 16″ MacBook Pro.
That means only a few models are left to upgrade to an M-series chip. Rumors are also swirling about the possible launch of second-generation Macs that already have the M1 chip.
macmini
Apple is reportedly working on a new, more powerful Mac mini that would replace the Intel-powered Mac mini model that Apple continues to sell. In this case, it would have the same chip as the new MacBook Pro, or at least think so. Bloomberg.
We were surprised that Apple didn’t release this update alongside the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. But maybe it’s waiting to do so when it updates the 27″ iMac too.
Possible release: WWDC 2022
30″ iMac (or larger)
The smaller iMac got an update in April 2021 and got a new, more colorful design and a bigger screen, too. But what about the largest iMac?
The 27-inch iMac will most likely be replaced by a model with a larger 30- or 32-inch screen. It should also get a redesign similar to the 24-inch model, albeit with different color options.
Possible release: WWDC 2022
macpro
As for the Mac Pro, it is believed that Apple is working on the new model with its chip, with a 32-core CPU and a 128-core GPU. If they decide to introduce new desktop Macs for professionals at WWDC in June, we could see the new Mac Pro.
The big question is what the M-series chip will be called. It’s hard to think of a name that would eschew more power than the M1 Pro and M1 Max, unless Apple decides to call it M Power.
Possible release: WWDC 2022
MacBook Air
The MacBook Air is said to be getting a redesign, and that could mean the arrival of the color gamut we’ve already seen on the 24-inch iMac.
It’s likely to arrive in 2022, perhaps around the same time as the new iMac and new iMac mini. However, there is also the possibility that we have to wait longer.
Possible release: Fall 2022
iPhone 14
There are already many rumors about the next iPhone. It looks like there won’t be a new iPhone mini and instead there will be a non-Pro iPhone with the same size as the Pro Max.
In 2022, all iPhone 14 should have a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which in 2021 was only available for Pro models. It is also possible that they will arrive with a notch smaller and better camera.
Possible release: September 2022
Apple Watch Series 8
There were many rumors circulating about a possible 2021 Apple Watch redesign, but it was not to be. The theory is that the plans had to be changed at the last minute because the new design was causing some problems.
The redesigned Apple Watch we’ve all been waiting for in 2021 may arrive in 2022.
Possible release: September 2022
Audio
In 2022, a new Apple Music subscription could arrive for those who want to enjoy high-resolution audio. If so, Apple would have to improve some of its audio products.
AirPods Pro
Apple updated AirPods, one of its most popular products, in October 2021. That makes AirPods Pro urgently in need of an update, as the current model is from October 2019.
Possible release: Spring 2022
HomePod with screen
It may not arrive in 2022, but we’d like the rumors that Apple is working on a HomePod with a screen to be true. We’ve always maintained that having a screen would make the HomePod so much more useful, but maybe that’s just us.
A screen would give the HomePod a lot more uses, and not just audio. Thus, you could also watch podcasts, read news or play YouTube videos, although the most practical thing would be to be able to communicate by FaceTime
Possible release: TBC
new areas
game console
We thought that it could be just an evolution of the Apple TV, but there are reports that Apple would like to launch a video game console to compete with the Nintendo Switch.
Possible release: TBC
AR glasses
Apple has already made it clear, on more than one occasion, its interest in augmented reality. We may learn more about his plans for Apple AR glasses or even Apple VR glasses in 2022.
Rumors suggest that an AR (or mixed reality) device could arrive this 2022, so in this case it is possible that Apple will show something at WWDC so that developers start designing apps for their new(s) devices).
Possible release: TBC
apple car
One of the most notorious rumors of 2016 in the Apple universe was the Apple Car. Now it seems that his intention to jump into the motoring sector would not materialize with the manufacture of his first autonomous car.
In this sense, the rumors now suggest that he would be working on a software. Up to 1,000 developers hired by Apple would be part of the Project Titan project.
At one point, 2020 was thought to be the launch year, but clearly this was not the case. It seems that there is something on the way, but we do not know what.
Possible release: 2025 or never
