I Am Groot Animated Series Coming to Disney Plus in August

I Am Groot is coming to Disney Plus on August 10. The animated series of shorts focuses on none other than Baby Groot himself, with Vin Diesel reprising his role as the voice of the lovable anthropomorphic offspring. Marvel Studios teased the upcoming series in a tweet, showing off an official poster featuring Baby Groot relaxing on top of one of the headphones connected to Peter Quill’s (played by Chris Pratt) iconic Walkman. It rests next to a palm tree-shaped air freshener, showing how small it really is, with two four-eyed penguin-like creatures (which are somehow even smaller than Baby Groot) peeking out from behind. We haven’t seen these two mischievous-looking creatures in any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but it looks like they’ll play some sort of role in the new series. Aside from the poster, Marvel and Disney haven’t revealed much else about the show, though Marvel loosely describes it as “following the glory days of Baby Groot as he grew up and got into trouble among the stars.” We don’t know if any other Guardians will appear in the show in animated form, or if it will focus solely on Groot (and his very limited vocabulary). Disney already has several short series, most of them geared towards kids, on its streaming service that follow beloved supporting characters who may not have been the center of attention in the movies they appeared in, such as Dug Days, Olaf Presents and Ice Age Scrat Tales. . I’m not denying that Disney makes the most of the kindness of these characters, but I’m not complaining either. I Am Groot will debut just before She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which hits Disney Plus on August 17. It’s the first original Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff yet, but it’s not Disney’s last: The live-action Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special will stream exclusively on Disney Plus in December.
