Although the MacBook Air is extremely popular, some users need something more. More performance, a bigger battery, more ports, a bigger screen… And if you need more, you need a MacBook Pro.
Before you spend all that money (often more than €2,300 / MXN$57,500) on something you want to use for years, it’s okay to ask yourself if now is a good time to buy it.
In the world of computers, something better is always on the way, but if something much better is about to arrive, you might want to wait.
This is everything we know about the MacBook Pro and our buying advice.
13-inch MacBook Pro Price and Specs
- Next update: July 2022
In late 2020, Apple updated the 13-inch MacBook Pro with its new M1 processor. Although it was a good laptop, the company has now introduced a better one, the MacBook Pro with M2.
As you may have guessed, the new model incorporates the latest generation of the Apple chip. Now, it seems that this is the only update that the new MacBook Pro presents. Apple continues to use the same screen, the same RAM, the same SSD, the same load, the same keyboard…
Thus, we are looking at a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro, with 8GB or 16GB RAM and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage. It still uses two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, a Magic Keyboard backlit, a Touch Bar and a 720p HD camera.
Why buy the 13″ MacBook Pro now?
If you’re interested in the cheaper 13-inch MacBook Pro, then the M2 chip is a good upgrade. It’s faster than the M1 chip it replaces, with an 8-core CPU (4 performance and 4 efficiency) and a GPU of 10 cores.
Apple sells it at a price that starts at €1,619 / MXN$32,499, an increase compared to the previous model. We still recommend that you buy at least the version with a 512GB SSD (€1,849 / MXN$37,999) and it’s also worth opting for 16GB memory since you won’t be able to upgrade later.
The main reason to buy this MacBook Pro model is if you’re worried about the price of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, but are willing to pay more than the MacBook Air with M2 for the Touch Bar. It could be the last Mac in having her
Why wait to buy the 13″ MacBook Pro?
Now that Apple has just introduced the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the also new M2 chip, there’s little reason to wait to buy the 13-inch MacBook Pro as long as you think this is the model for you.
However, we think there are better options on the market. If you want a higher-end MacBook, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is a much better option. Admittedly, the price is higher and it uses an older processor, but it’s still very good technology.
If you want to save money, we recommend the new MacBook Air with M2. There’s virtually no difference in performance between the MacBook Pro and Air with M1, and the battery life is incredible on both. The only interesting thing about the 13-inch MacBook Pro is the Touch Bar, if that’s what you find interesting.
Verdict: Buy another model
Before the arrival of the new 13″ MacBook Pro with M2, we advised waiting to see what Apple surprised us with at WWDC. The truth is that we were a little disappointed and our recommendation would be to buy another model: or the 14″ MacBook Pro or the MacBook Air with M2.
