Sonos launches Ray, its most affordable soundbar in India

Sonos has made a name for itself as a pioneer in multi-room wireless home audio. Subsequently, they have focused on other home audio products such as sound bars. Typically a premium audio brand, the company has just announced its most affordable sound bar in India, the Sonos Ray. The product will be available for purchase here only in September 2022. Image credit: Tech2/Ameya Dalvi Sonos Ray is a compact soundbar with surprisingly impressive sound output for its size. The bar is less than two feet long and quite portable weighing less than 2kg. Despite its portability, it should not be confused with a wireless Bluetooth speaker as it requires power to function; It has no built-in battery. But yes, once it’s turned on, you can always use it as a party speaker in an average sized room. The bar includes four Class D amplifiers, two tweeters, and two midrange drivers. The Bass Reflex system comprising a patented low-velocity port design addresses low frequencies and minimizes distortion. It has capacitive touch controls to handle playback and volume functions. Greater control of the device can be achieved through the Sonos app which gives you bass and treble adjustments, Speech Enhancement to boost vocal frequencies for better dialogue clarity, and Night Sound for a more relaxing outlet, among other things. The company claims that the Sonos Ray has custom-designed waveguides that project sound from wall to wall to map your room and tailor sound to that particular space. Once set up, you can control this bar with your TV remote, the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay 2, and select music streaming apps. It can even connect to 2.4 GHz WiFi networks. Audio input is limited to optical input only, but company officials confirmed that an optical-to-HDMI adapter would be included to connect this product to an HDMI ARC port on a computer. For example, the Ray can be used as front channels and combined with company surround sound speakers to have a surround sound system. Similarly, you can add a subwoofer to your setup to boost bass or sync it with any of the company’s other products for multi-room listening. The Sonos Ray will be priced at Rs 37,999 and will be available for purchase in India from September 2022. Buyers will be able to choose between black and white color tones. We’ll save our opinion on its sound quality and ease of use for another day after we have a review unit in hand. Via: FirstPost
