Apple did not give him a minute of attention during the key note WWDC 2022 kickoff, but that doesn’t mean tvOS 16, the next version of the Apple TV operating system, hasn’t gotten a little love this year too.
With tvOS 16, Apple TV will finally be compatible with Nintendo Switch controllers. It will also support HDR10+ technology and add a new feature so you can fast-forward a video on Apple TV+.

Apple TV models supported by tvOS 16
Apple has wanted to make it easy and, this 2022, the new version of the software of Apple TV will be compatible with the same models that were already able to install tvOS 15 when it was released last fall:
- AppleTVHD
- Apple TV 4K (1st generation)
- Apple TV 4K (2nd generation)
Apple TV models not compatible with tvOS 16
Similarly, tvOS 16 is still not supported on the following models, which were no longer able to install tvOS 15 in 2021:
- Apple TV (1st generation)
- Apple TV (2nd generation)
- Apple TV (3rd generation)
